Materials:
Gloves, disposable cap, and henna powder (included in the package).
You will also need: a non-metallic bowl, a plastic spatula, hot water (preferably bottled), and a brush for applying to the roots. A towel and a hair dryer are also helpful.
If you want more highlights, you can add some lemon juice or chamomile infusion to the mixture.
Instructions:
Preparation:
- Place the henna in a bowl while wearing gloves to avoid staining.
- Gradually add hot water while mixing with the spatula. If desired, you can add lemon or chamomile.
- Let the mixture rest until it cools down a bit.
Application:
Tip: First, apply moisturizer around your face, ears, and neck to protect your skin from stains.
On dry hair, apply the paste by massaging the scalp well, covering all the roots completely and evenly. If you're applying to the entire hair, continue down to the tips. If you're coloring dreadlocks, the process is the same; simply apply carefully to each rasta, soaking it well, and make sure the dye penetrates deep inside the rasta, not just the surface layer. Otherwise, it's just like applying to loose hair.
Once everything is covered, massage the scalp well.
If you only retouched the roots: put on the cap with your hair or dreadlocks gathered in a low ponytail.
If you dyed the entire hair: gather it into a top bun and put on the cap.
If the cap moves, you can secure it with plastic wrap.
Clean any skin stains now.
Leave it on for 2 to 3 hours.
Rinsing:
Rinse with warm water until most of the paste (mud-like consistency) is gone, then wash with your shampoo (if you have dreadlocks, your shampoo should be this one from Dr. Bronner's). Massage the scalp for a minute, and finally rinse with warm water until very little color remains in the water.
Ingredients: Cassia Obovata, Lawsonia Inermis, Sodium Picramate
Quantity: 100 grams. Enough for most hair or dreadheads (up to mid-back, longer hair may require one and a half or two packages).
If you're only retouching the roots, use about 25 grams.
Here's a link to a video tutorial on YouTube by a lovely girl who explains everything. When I have the chance, I'll record a tutorial for dreadlocks, but remember, it's exactly the same process, just make sure to soak each rasta thoroughly, rubbing it bit by bit, so the dye penetrates deep inside the rasta's internal hair as much as possible, not just the outer layer of hair.
