The box includes disposable gloves, a cap, and powdered henna.
You will also need: a (non-metallic) bowl and a spatula, hot water (preferably bottled), and a brush for root application. Additionally, you’ll need a towel and a hairdryer.
For additional highlights, you can add a bit of lemon juice or chamomile tea to the mix.
Place the henna in a bowl carefully, as the powder can stain. Use gloves if preferred.
Gradually add hot water and mix with the spatula until a smooth paste forms. If desired, add lemon or chamomile.
Let the mixture cool slightly before application.
Tip: Before starting, apply moisturizer to the contours of your face, ears, and neck to prevent staining your skin.
On dry hair: Apply the paste, massaging the scalp thoroughly and evenly covering all the roots. Continue to the ends if applying to the entire hair. If dyeing dreads, apply carefully, dread by dread, ensuring the dye penetrates as much of the inner hair within the dread as possible, not just the surface. Otherwise, the process is the same as with loose hair.
Once everything is covered, massage the scalp well.
If the cap moves, secure it with cling film. Clean any stains on your skin now. Leave the henna on for 2 to 3 hours.
Rinse with lukewarm water until most of the paste (a mud-like texture) is gone. Then, wash with shampoo. If you have dreads, use Dr. Bronner’s shampoo. Massage your scalp for a minute, and finally rinse with lukewarm water until the water runs almost clear.
Cassia Obovata, Lawsonia Inermis, Sodium Picramate
100 grams. This is sufficient for most hair lengths or dreads up to mid-back. For longer hair, you may need 1.5 or 2 packs.
If only touching up roots, use approximately 25 grams.
Here’s a link to a tutorial video on YouTube by a very kind girl explaining everything. When I have the chance, I’ll record a tutorial for dreads, but remember, it’s the same process; just ensure you soak and rub each dread well so the dye penetrates deep inside the hair and not just on the outer layer.
