Materials:
Inside the box, you will find: disposable gloves, a cap, and henna powder.
You will need: a bowl (avoid metal), a plastic or wooden spatula, hot water (preferably bottled), a brush for root application (optional), a towel, and a hairdryer.
If you want extra shine and highlights, you can add lemon juice or chamomile tea to the mix.
Instructions:
Preparation:
- Put on gloves and pour the henna powder into a non-metal bowl.
- Gradually add very hot water while mixing until you get a smooth paste.
- Let it cool down until it’s warm enough to apply.
Application:
Tip: Apply moisturizer to the edges of your face, ears, and neck to prevent staining your skin.
On dry hair, apply the paste, massaging the scalp thoroughly and covering all roots evenly. Move towards the ends if applying to the entire length. If you're dyeing dreads, apply the paste carefully to each dread, ensuring the dye penetrates the inner hair as much as possible, not just the surface. The rest is the same as with loose hair.
Once fully covered, massage your scalp well.
If you’ve only retouched roots: put on the cap with your hair or dreads in a low ponytail.
If you’ve dyed everything: gather your hair or dreads into a bun and cover with the cap.
If the cap shifts, secure it with plastic wrap.
Clean any stains from your skin now.
Let it sit for 2 to 3 hours.
Rinse:
Rinse with warm water until most of the paste (mud-like texture) is gone. Then wash with your shampoo (if you have dreads, your shampoo should be this one from Dr. Bronner's). Massage the scalp for a minute, and rinse with warm water until the water runs almost clear.
Ingredients: Cassia Obovata, Lawsonia Inermis, Sodium Picramate
Quantity: 100 grams. Enough for most hair types or dreadheads (up to mid-back length; longer hair will need one and a half or two packs).
If you’re only retouching roots, use about 25 grams.
Here’s a YouTube tutorial video by a lovely person explaining everything. When I get a chance, I'll record a tutorial specifically for dreads, but remember, the process is the same—just make sure to saturate each dread well, rubbing each section thoroughly so the dye penetrates the inner hair as much as possible, not just the surface.
